This post will be a little different from the rest. As I pass the one-month mark in India I am starting to get settled in everyday routine here. I thought I would describe how one of my days in Banaras can look like. Sometimes the reflections have to take a day off!
I wake up around 8.00 a.m. and before heading off for breakfast I read to get some inspiration from the book of books.
I eat breakfast at this little café just by the ganga river. They have this delicious yoghurt with fruit and nuts. It sure gives me a well needed vitamin boost every day. It is a cozy little café and the manager is actually one of the people here in Banaras hired to help us out with things. It can be anything from finding people we would like to interview to order bottled water for us. He is a great guy and it is always a pleasure talking to him.
After breakfast I have my study session. This is the best time to study when I have enough energy. Here you can see my desk where I spend a lot of time. Since I have internet access from my room I don’t have to go to a library to study which feels nice.
Lunch is served at the Swedish Study center Ganga Mahal at 1.00 p.m with a view overlooking the river. As you eat the delicious Indian food you hear the distant sound of motors from the boats. This is a great time to chat with the other Swedish students and hang out. If it’s a good day our stomachs take us to some restaurant for dessert.
After lunch I often feel very tired, it is still very hot here and that gets me worn out. The afternoon is a time for rest. Later I can focus again and study some more before dinner. Some days we have hindiclasses at the Swedish study center. Where we eat dinner depends on the day but it is often very good food. Here you can see some Thali, mixed Indian dishes, and of course a good book to enjoy.
When I get back to my room for the night I talk some with my wonderful wife on skype. Then I go to bed and read some or listen to some book on my mp3-player. Tintin is the favorite. This is my view when I go to bed, it is quite cozy actually.
This is how life can be for a Swedish student in Banaras, India.
