Majestic Soaring

I’ve seen it. I saw it soaring majestically in the blue sky. It was the emperor of the air. The Albatross. On the Otago Pensinsula there is a Royal Albatross Centre sitting on the far edge of the cape. A lighthouse marks the entrance of the harbor inlet and the magnificent birds are circulating it having their nests on the cliffs dropping down in the Pacific.

We kept driving around the peninsula and found this almost deserted beach which was wonderful and provided a tranquil moment. The water was very cold but refreshing. It was a beautiful day and we witnessed some amazing breathtaking views. We kept saying to ourselves, “oh they have got to be kidding”, whenever we passed another hill and presented to another New Zealand scenery.

My thoughts went, oddly, to Snusmumriken in the Finnish cartoon Mumintrollet by Tove Jansson (which I have been growing up with). Snusmumriken states how he owns every beautiful thing or place he sees which makes him happy. He doesn’t need to officially own them. When he leaves he doesn’t own them anymore.

I wish I could have that approach to ownership and life. To be able to soar through the beautiful things life has to show us such as nature or art but not have the destructive desire of owning. To be able to appreciate a moment, a scenery or an object and then move on and be happy because of that moment. An attitude which can be the map to many hidden treasures in my view.

Imagine being able to own a valley, a mountain, an ocean or a city. Imagine you being able to appreciate the moment. Imagine to leave it there, making it unique. Majestic.
